Hey all, just wondering how many of us have "mini" versions of their cars? Here's mine. I know it's a '70, but it's the closest available.
I started with Ertl's version of the all-white '70 SX. I chose this because it was already white with the black pin stripes. All I had to was add the vinyl top, paint the interior, add the rear wing, hood stripes and wheels. I also added the pinstripe to the wing.
To simulate the top, I found some green cloth tape on the innerweb. I laid it out on the 1/18 and once everything was how I wanted it, I just trimmed around the windows, added some bare metal foil and called it good.
When I first did the mods, it was based on when I had the twin scoop hood. I salvaged the scoop and rear wing from Ertl's '69 Hurst/Olds. Here's some pics of my real car and the 1/18 at that time.
Since I installed the striped hood on my real car, I needed to "update" the 1/18 as well. After poking around eBay, I found a set of decals from a Dave Strickler drag Camaro, and that's where I got the hood stripes. I also added an Oldsmobile logo to the rear window to compliment my real car. Again, not quite the same, but close enough.
