How many are drag racing with a manual transmission
muncie m20(wide ratio) 4.33 rear 29x9 m&h drag slick.not a serious race car this car is a driver that i go to the track 2 times a year at most.i need to spend more time there to get better but that's not likely to happen.
It kinda depends how serious you want to get or how much fun you need to have. Nothing more fun than rowing your own gears. Nothing better than having your auto trans pick up the missed time you lost from rowing your own..... Tedd
Back in the late 70's when I was still racing a 70 W30 it started out as a 4 speed but I kept breaking things. Switched to a full manual valve body turbo 400 and eventually went 12.6 at 112 at Byron Dragway near Rockford. I still have the time slip somewhere. When launched right (or wrong I suppose depending on your point of view) the thing would even pull the front wheels a bit. What a rush!
considering the importance of consistency in drag racing it's hard to argue with using an automatic transmission, plus a muncie is borderline strong enough for a big block olds and prone to breakage.as far as the joy from driving on the street i don't think a stick can be beat.
