hood release linkage parts for 68 cutlass

Hey guys,
Does anyone have parts and numbers for the hood release linkage? What I actually need is the "nut" (i know it's not at all a nut) that holds the thin bar to the like 1" double flat piece that pivots when you pull the handle.

Every time I want to put the hood up, I have to wedge my hand in between the bumper and front valence and put the thin bar through its hole in the double flat piece in order to get the hood to pop.

Sorry for the horrible explanation; I know it's really bad and I can't even get my camera in there to take a good pic.

I'm guessing it's a $.50 part but I can't find it in any store and I don't know how to search for it online since I don't know what it's called (obviously)

appreciate the help
Jim

There are two styles of hood release for 68. It sounds like you have the "T" handle type that might possibly be missing the "T" on the end. The other style is a paddle type. The two diagrams are on Section 11 page 109 and 110. Look at those and then you can probably describe what you're looking for a little better.

It's also possible that you have the "T" handle type release and the "Paddle" type core support without the hole for the "T" handle. The different release types had two different core supports

The assembly manual Section 11 is here:

You'll probably have to register at Wild About Cars but it free & there's tons of info there including the complete assembly manual

edit:

after re-reading your post it appears you are missing clip 5712678.

I have a complete assembly but not just the clip. You may be able to find something in McMaster Carr that would work.

Something like this maybe:

I think similar clips are used on the Q-Jet carb linkages

I gather the same part is what he needs
I wonder if you can use a much more common carb linkage clip

Personally, I feel that the minor annoyance of putting the rod in the hole when you need to is a small price to pay for a bit of theft deterrance. Keep curious yutes out of the engine compartment. Hell, they are probably looking for the hood release inside the vehicle anyhow.

Watch epay for parts and buy the assembly?

It's actually the 7003137 clip I need, but you sir are a lifesaver. I wonder where I can find something like that.

Thanks so much for all the help

Anyone know where I can buy these and not have them murder you on shipping? Sidenote: gmpartsdirect tried to charge me $1900 for shipping a 50cent part... not a joke

allyolds68 parts

I am in desperate need of that release handle assembly you have. I am missing the pivot point for a car we are restoring. I don't care if it is either style because the rad support we have in it is capable of taking either. Please email me at kanterrestoration@gmail.com if it is still available and you want to sell it. Thanks. Kurt

Barrone821 - go to partsvoice.com and search the part. There are a bunch of dealers that have that clip - here is a copy-and-past of the search - I would suggest Craig Motors out of Napa CA or Friesens Chevy; White Racing Products gouges and Collectors Auto is obscenely overpriced - also the quantites are not necessarily correct (definitely not for Collectors Auto) but call around:
