Hood Doesn't Raise Very High
Hood Doesn't Raise Very High
Just curious. Does anyone else have this problem? The hood lifts up to a point where the hinges have a tab on them that do not let it raise any higher. It is a bear to work on because it is lower than a "regular" raised hood. My friends 69 raises nice and high. Do I have some kind of crazy hinges? Thanks in advance for the info. If anyone has hinges for sale I would be interested in mint pair for a 68 Cutlass.

I have a set but do you have a dual pattern fender? You realize it's not a simple swap, right? The hood holes on the 69 hinge do not line up with the 68 hood. They have to be elongated to fit. The set I have are slightly elongated but need further work to make the hood adjustable front to back.
Just be glad it is not a 61 or 62. They are even worse than 68. First step in the service manual for many things is to "remove hood" I almost have to remove the hood just to adjust the idle on the Jetfire.
I'm always having fun with family and coworkers when they want to see what I'm doing under the hood and I tell them to take a peek, and once they are done they end up with a bruise on the back of their head. lol you still want to see what I'm doing.
I put a neon orange foam noodle over the winch cable in my enclosed trailer after I tripped over it a couple times.
I still trip over it, but it doesn't hurt my ankles as bad now
What stops the hood is it a bump lower on the moving parts or a tab up towards the top on an arm if that makes sense. Im sure you can modify your hinges and make your own stop. Its been a while since I had hinges., you could buy some "junk" ones to fiddle with and mod.

Lol, If copper can't come up with a fix then no one can just add tequila . Coopercutlass the MacGyver of all olds MacGyver's. Put-r-ther Copper!!!
The hinges I have are in perfect condition. They just don't let the hood open as far as my buddy's 69. I like the way that hood works. We were scratching our heads the other night about this hood. At least now I know it's correct and not a one off problem or the wrong hinges. What do you have Copper? A fiberglass hood with pins?
acutally right now my car has no fenders or hood lol sold em. I did have the fiberglass fenders and pin on hood but im going back to steel fenders which I got cheap of course lol and a flat hood with hinges. I miss not being able to open my hood at local hang outs since usually there is no place to put my hood. I did however find out that glass fenders and hood are worth a tenth and a half in the 1/4. Plus I needed an excuse to paint my car. I though you needed more work room which is one thing I did love about the fiberglass lift off hood. Not to mention driving around town with the hood off and the non drop base air cleaner just to get more looks lol.
Knock on wood I have never got pulled over in my cutlass and I do some seriously spirited driving. Elgin is I guess super strict on sound rules im surprised I never got pulled over as usually you can hear me 3 blocks away. I think since its a "classic" I get away with it lol. I think elgin is more after guys with 26's and pumping bass heavy music.
Its embarrassing to get pulled over when the wifes feet are up on the dash cruzin through a small community heading up to the trailer lol . Didn't have time to put her seat belt on, had time to put the hood on thou
.
