Hood Adjustment

Anyone know how to adjust the rear of a hood. The rear of the hood on my 65 sticks up about a 1/4" above the fenders. It will push down and stay. I have no idea if the hinges should be adjusted up or down to get it to come back flush. The hinges appear to be in very good shape so I think it's just out of whack.

If it's up and you can push it down after the hood is latched my guess would be the hinge is shot, but that's just a guess.

Check to see if your hinge mounting bolts are loose. When they are loosened, it allows the hood to be adjusted up or down. If it's not that, then possibly you've got some slack in the hinge, somewhere.

hood adjustment

They may be worn, but try loostening both bolts and lift up on the hood to get rear of hinge at lowest adjustment.See if that helps any.

If the front to back is good, get a helper, loosen the hinge bolts, have the helper push up on the hood, tighten the bolts.

I got my hood to close perfect last night. I lubed it with PB Blaster, I had lubed it before but not with this. When I opened the hood I about knocked my teeth out it opened so easy and when you close it it lines right up with the fenders.

PB prorbaly loosened it up but you may need a better lubricant to keep it operating smoothly IDK maybe oil or lithium grease?

The big shop manual says to use 30W on them, I'll try that now that they are loose.
