Hood Height Adjustment

I can't seem to get the back edge of my hood to adjust down enough on my 72 Cutlass. It sits higher than the fenders on both sides. I have followed the manual and it hasn't helped. Anyone have some insight on this? It isn't hung uip on the rubber bumper on the cowl and I have loosened and tried to reposition the hinges. Am I missing something?

This is a two man job. May sound like the wrong way, but raise the front bolt some, and back one down, it will push the back down. Also maybe the fenders are not addjusted the right height.

you may be surprised try taking the rubber bumper off the cowl first and see (if you havnt. it was hitting on mine) the new one is stiffer than needs be i trimmed a little off the ends and it helped

FYI my experience...my hood sat perfect, I replaced the rubber bumper at the back and the cowl seal as well. one side of my hood now sat up a 1/2 inch to high in the back. I took off the bumper still sat up high I took off the cowl seal and that was it

Also, your hood springs may be weak. Can you "push" down on the back of the hood, once it is closed to make the edges align? If so, you have to replace your springs. If not, you are fighting the "alignment" battle. Let us know about the springs---if they are good, we (I) can give you some tips on aligning that hood. Don't get frustrated---we've all been there.

I have the same issue, but haven't had a chance to work on it yet. I did ask the guys at BAP, and they said to place a shim between the upper hinge bracket and the hood and this would lower the height when it's closed. He said although this seems backwards and doesn't know how it effects the hinge geometry, it really does work. I don't know, but if you try it, make sure you let us know! Good luck!

I've lubed the hinges with WD-40, and it seemed to correct it.
Put a rag or towel on the fender to prevent 'overspray' though.
