Home made Hump Hugger/Drink Holder

So I was tired of driving around with a cold beverage between my legs, so I decided to make my own drink holder. The ones on the market with the storage bin are way too expensive, and a basic drink holder from an auto parts store didn't fit right and looked too modern for an older car. Total build cost for this was $35. It is my first attempt, and does what it's supposed to do.

Back in the good old days, the cup holder was a cooler on the front seat between my buddy and me, but they tell me that you can't do things these days the same way as in the old days.

Nice work. We'd be interested in seeing any pics as you were putting it together.

I don't have any pictures of the build process, however, the front and back with the arches is 3/4" particle board, the top and sides 3/8" wood, top rings are 3 1/2" speaker mount rings, Boston baked bean cans inside the rings, the bottom of the can I used the lids from two jars of peanut butter, some cork insert and wrapped in black vinyl (5 sq yards for $8 shipped). The emblem was jacked from the side of my landau roof. The cutlass is in the shop getting a new top and rust repair.

Back in the old days my drink holder was the girl sitting on the hump, or in the middle.
Sometimes I can still talk her into performing that task.

Nice drink holder, maybe you should see if other might want one.

I plan on making a few different styles and perfecting them. Post them for sale and see if I get any bites.

Well, I already had one can of beans and one jar of PB. The funny part was me walking around the grocery store measuring cans with a tape measurer. The clerks probably don't see that too often

I like it a lot.. How do you plan on holding it in place?

It doesn't need anything to hold it place. It weighs enough to stay in place, not to mention it will be heavier once a drink is in it.

Looks great! The one I made 20 years ago is pretty ugly in comparison. Mine, however, had a secret compartment for cigarettes & lighters (Mom didn't know I smoked).
Of course, It ended up becoming the place where my buddies stored their weed....

I'll start working on some idea's here shortly. Once I make a couple different styles, I'll post pictures. I'm not going to get real intricate with these things, but a phone/8-track pocket seems possible.

Took some kids for a ride in my car recently.

They couldn't understand why there were no cup-holders, and were mystified as to what the ashtrays were.

Most of them have never rolled up a window with a crank

Indeed true. Good thing mine has electric windows - or I might have blown their minds
