Seems like a scam to me. At least the feedback is at zero.

And here I thought this was going to be another thread about the green one...

Pretty lengthy disclaimer at the bottom of the ebay ad.

That would be the buyer, or, more correctly, NOT the seller...

Cell phones mean that you can't link an area code to a physical location any more.

I asked this of the seller:

"Sir, one fact is indisputable- if the car is Auto Trans, it is not a factory 442. Can you at least be that honest with your presentation? All 1964 442's were Manual Trans. Thanks!"

His response to my 4spd query (copy & paste): "There were 3 bo9 cars that were x code automatics and this is one of them."

I'm sure this is news to all of us!

So are you going to ask him where he got this info and to provide documentation?

Well, he has one too many digits in his VIN (824M1876401).

Interesting is that this nearly identical car, also alleged to be an automatic (though there is no photo of the interior), was sold at BJ in 2011 for 38,500. The VIN on the BJ car is 824M187817. Is this really the same car, and one of the VINs is a typo? Or is it just coincidence that there are TWO alleged Tahitian Yellow 1964 442 convertibles with automatics in the world?

I happened to be looking through the ebay ad for the subject car again. What's wrong with this picture? Transmission issue aside, for six figures I'd expect the car to be completely correct.

Well since you asked I see non stock fuel filter and excessiver rubber line, dents in valve cover and breather, air cleaner hold down stud too long, wrong color valve cover and oil fill cap, wrong color lower alternator bracket, sloppy + battery cable, poor spark plug routing.

That's most of them. The one that really struck me was the incorrect valve cover breather. That's a painted Mr. Gasket unit, not the correct factory part. Also, the grey chinesium distributor cap.

6/7/15

after pointing out that it cannot be a real 442 if it has AT a few days ago, it is still set forth as a 442.

I "asked" -
Still not fixed, so you think it is OK to misrepresent this car as a 442 despite its having an automatic trans. Zero feedback and a price optimistic even if it were a real 442. Interesting.

I see more pix now? Is that a fried electrical wire from center lower LH rocker cover bolt to junction block?

Unusual to see a fan shroud that far back, esp. on a no-AC car

"Dear *the*rocketscientist,

This car is one of three built from the factory with a bo9 option and a automatic. It's a very rare car. I have the protecto plate that states a x code right on it. I have documentation from Oldsmobile club of America. If your interested in buying the vehicle I'd be happy to send you the information if not I don't like being called a liar."

Well, there ya go
It is one of THREE contary to popular lies spread by the OCA and the factory.

I like the huge wrinkle in the air cleaner decal too! This is obviously a high-dollar resto!

WOW! I had not looked at the actual ad until just now. They want $110K for a car with a universal fit radiator hose and mismatching hose clamps? That's optimistic! I am a novice at identifying Oldsmobiles, but that thing is not a quality resto. Regardless of the pedigree, that thing is not worth that much money!

Actually, that's not a wrinkle. The air cleaner pie pan is metal and that's where the metal overlaps.

As long as we're going to pick things apart in the pic, I never saw a gray/ blue (whatever, I'm a guy) distributor cap back then.
There seems to be a crimp on replacement 1/4 lug on the oil switch.
Shouldn't the battery cable be on the bottom of the junction block and not on top?
I don't remember ever seeing worm clamps on any part of the engine, but there they are, everywhere: radiator hose, bypass hose, heater hose, etc., along with that top radiator clamp mentioned before that didn't exist until maybe 20 years ago.
OK, what else?
