Just came in the mail today. Seems Olds has been starting to get some respect as of late.

I knew it. Hemmings doesnt give a crap about the early 442s. Muscle Car Review does, there is a 67 in there this month. Four 65s and two 67s in the past year. Hemmings has never had either car in their magazine.

Look, just my 2 cents and not because I won a Hemmings award, but I think they do a great job covering ALL brands, espescially the rare cars out there and those you may not even know about. I mean look at the quality of the gloss paper they use, and the amount of pages they devote to the car they are featuring! Other than Muscle Car review I think Hemmings does a great job trying to cover the field. Besides I would have dropped them in an eye flash if they were crap! I subscribe to both. I think I heard this somewhere "you cannot please all the people all the time!" LoL

I too think they do a great job, they have featured odd ball cars that I wouldn' have been caught dead in 20 years ago and you still couldn't give the car to me (the 80s Shelby Charger comes to mind) but I still think it was great they featured the car and I appreciate it for what they are.

In the end the magazine still needs to make money, so of course they will feature many cars for the masses but I think they do a great job of featuring some less popular cars.

I liked it a lot more before Terry McGean became editor. If you like Mopars and Chevelles its right up your alley. The main editor told me they feature those cars because they are easy to find. They cant find a decent 65, 67, 68 or 69 to feature. There have been 14 70-72 cars featured though.

I own every issue of HMM, up until last month. I didnt reup. MCR has went to thicker glossier paper this month. And they do an issue each year with almost all Oldsmobiles.

TK-65: There just are not that many 64-69 cars out there or even left. Look at the restoration companies producing parts, it is the 70-72 cars. Hey dude I bought a 65 F-85 V-6 with the Buick engine and installed a stock blueprinted 70' W-31 drive train I got from engineering through Olds Lansing Salvage for $450 and installed in the 65' (I think the nicest and best looking year of the "Box style bodies of 64-67"). It was strickly a drag car and I had a lot of fun with that car until I started running one of the 68' Ram Rod cars and I sold it. It ran 12:60s all day long. Thats in a car that is only 200 # lighter than a 70' F-85. I mean look at your car and the great job you did restoring it from the condition you got it in. Wow most would have parted it out or sent it to the crusher like it was 15-20 yrs ago! In Florida about 20 yrs ago there was a mandate to all scrap yards and salvage yards to either crush or sell anything prior to 1988. You should have seen the 18 wheelers leaving Florida with crushed cars on their flat bed trailers during 90'!

MCR seems to be finding them. Low mileage (8,000) 67 in this months. Last Decembers Olds issue with two 65s, a 66 W30, and a 67 W30. A 65 442 and a low mileage 65 F85 a few months later. They did Jerry Reynolds 66 Canadian W30 a few years ago. Even the last Musclecar Enthusiast had a 67 442 on the cover. They also did a in depth 66 W30 feature a few years ago.

HMM just doesnt care to run these cars. They were at Sturbridge and didnt get any of the 64-69 cars that were there. How come MCR and the defunct magazine can find them and HMM hasnt found a lick in the 8 years they have been in print?

TK, though you say HMM seems to have no love for the early 442s, I noted you mentioned 65s and 67s specifically. Of course they DID do an article on Rich Brigidi's tri-carb 1966 442 vert back in 2009, and in fact it was named the Muscle Machine of the year that year. Rich is a heck of a nice guy, met him and his car at Musclepalooza at E-town last year (sponsored by HMM).

Also, in May of 2009, they had an article on a '64 F-85 with a '70 455 built to W30 specs, and in the same issue, an article on Loyed Woodland and his famous winning C-stock '66 (with pics of the car from back in the day and a few years ago).

Then there was the article on the '67 Delmont Apprehender in the Dec. 2008 issue, a personal fav. of mine even if it aint a Cutty.

That said, I did let my subscription lapse at the end of 2009...but I AM waiting for the issue to come out with my friend's 4 speed '65 Jetstar I. I'll buy a few of those if it ever hits the stands.

Maybe some of us could get together and propose they do an issue focusing on Olds A bodies, when/where we will have several nice cars together. An OCA Nationals is one such event (4th of July weekend next year, in Des Moines). We could offer to have "crib sheets" made up and on disc so the writers (most of whom weren't born when the cars were made) can get their facts straight easily. TK and I were fortunate that the writers at MCR tried very hard to do good jobs on our cars for last December's issue. Perhaps HMN will also appreciate that several of the "experts" on early years would be at the event to provide "special knowledge" to help with the quality of the articles.
