Help needed removing Toronado rear spindle

I'm trying to remove a spindle from the rear axle of a 1966 Toronado for another member here. I checked a 1967 Chassis Service Manual thinking it would be the same as in 1966. It sounded like once I removed the backing plate I should be able to knock it out with a hammer. I've tried wacking it with a big hammer, soaking it with Kroil, and the big hammer treatment again. No sign of movement. Am I doing something wrong? Did the 1966 have a different setup than the 1967? I've got the axle out on the ground now and here's a few pictures of my lack of progress removing the spindle. Any ideas?

My 66 CSM has the exact wording as the 67 CSM; "Drive spindle out of axle, with a hammer". Bigger hammer and/or heat with a torch.

Thanks Henry, next weekend I'll dig out the torch and give that a try.
