Help with my roof
Help with my roof
I have ordered a manual (1974 Body by Fisher) but haven't received it yet,so I knew I could ask here and get help. My 74 Olds has a sunroof, I have been told it ruins the value because everyone thought it was an aftermarket roof. After closer examination it seems to be a factory install, did they offer a sunroof as a factory option,if so does it help or hurt the value?
I think most of the regulars here would agree that a sunroof won't necessarily hurt or boost the value of your car over a car without it. A car is only worth as much as someone is willing to pay for it. Whether or not the sunroof was a "rare" option is another question. Then again, just because something is "rare" doesn't mean it is more valuable.
If you are in the process of fixing up your car I would suggest making sure the sunroof is done right. I have heard that sunroofs, moonroofs, and T tops are notrious for leaking. Make sure you know what you are doing when you disassemble it or repair it. It might even be worth it to have a shop rebuild it for you.

You might visit the following site, it specializes in the 1973-77 vintage Oldsmobiles.

I have good news for you, maybe. Looking through the 74 sales catalog that I have, they show an option available in all Cutlass model lines for the sun roof. It opens to the back, and has 2 round fasteners in the back close together for the handle. There are also 2 more visible for the front hinges. I hope this helps.
