If I could get a little help decoding this trim tag please.

 

Betcha I know what car that came from...

 

That car is making the press and the rounds this year. We ran an article in Thunder & Lightning and that article was then expanded / reworked into Old Cars Weekly, and it's been to H/OCA Nationals and now MCACN.

The car could be restored with maybe 4 to 5 percent of the original DNA.
It's gonna cost a pretty penny.

 

Interesting that the cowl tag doesn't show a factory vinyl top. I'd expect the top to have been replaced after the sunroof was added, but it appears to use the OEM halo trim. I guess they started with an all painted car and added the trim with the vinyl later.

 

I am going to assume that was easier to not have to yank the first vinyl top and just get the trim from the parts ordering. It's interesting to see what GM did in 70-72 with vinyl tops on A bodies, which ones had no halo, half halo, and full halo.

 

Photos of the top material and sunroof also the clips for the trim in the last photo.

 

But the Halo trim is held on by little welded studs, so that would have been done before paint.

 

Yeah, Paul's photos show that the weld studs are in place, so still interesting. To Koda's point, I agree that it would have been silly to install the top just to remove it for sunroof installation.

I'm guessing a pile of rotting leaves accumulated over years of sitting under trees with no front end.

 

I think the car can be restored with maybe 50% of original. It will need new doors, fenders, hood, entire front clip, both bumpers, entire interior, new glass, all lines, tires, brakes, exhaust, probably frame.

The tub is saveable, lots of body work. I think the spoiler will have to be either refabbed, or the pieces cut off and mated to a central piece, then worked onto a donor trunk lid. Powertrain is saveable, just a question of degree.

So, they'll end up with the body, the powertrain, and half the spoiler, in my estimate.

 

What's with the bullet holes on driver's door?

I knew it had been badly neglected and poorly stored, but didn't know any dumb sombitch had used it for target practice.

At least it survived.

 

Koda I am always on your side. Fifty percent of this car brought back? Damnit this car is wasted. The rust. The frame damage. The engine The body etc is junk. The top is still there. The rear deck spoiler rusted and beat up is still there. Unreal one of one. Interior is still there pretty much. Absolutely a cool *** car. One of One for real. I am sure it is in good hands AND it has has always been documented. Damn that is a whole lot of work. Unreal one of one Oldsmobile history. Oh wait did I say one of one yet?
