Header-steering lock rod interference

The header interferes with the steering lock rod that goes down to transmission. Anyone ever experience this and what was your fix? Thank you

What are your vehicle specifics: year, engine, manual trans or automatic, console or column shift?

This can happen as all headers are not made equal.

At some point I removed the back drive linkage and installed a different manual selector shaft bracket to get around that problem. Be aware you will lose the function of back up lights and it circumvents the neutral start switch as the shifter bowl stays in the park postion...unless you manually move it with your hand. This is not a good solution and neither are ill fitting headers.

When i went to a big Olds I was able to put those parts back on as these different headers didn't impose a problem.

Do you have a picture of where it is interfering? I think there is some fixes on Youtube or Google search. I believe someone makes a kit or rod to route around the header. You might be able to bend the rod you have. Good luck.

Read the attached pdf which gives instruction for modifying the shift arm for a Hooker Header install.
It may work or shed light on a solution since we do not know what type of headers you have.

I'm not sure what headers they are but that should be a big help to modify the rod arm. I'll post a picture later. Thank you
