Has anyone ever seen this color combo on a W30?
A May 70 issue of CARS magazine featured a road test of a new 1970 W30 with a weird color scheme, Sebring Yellow with Matador Red stripes. That's a color combo I've never seen, or heard of before. Has anyone ever seen or know of that bizarre color combo? Couldn't have been to many that rolled off the line with those colors........

It was not a factory-recommended combination so it relied on a person who knew his/her way around an order form and someone who had a sick sense of humor. I'm sure there was a handful of funky cars built although there's no saying if any other were built like this. Jensenracing claims his dad had a Sebring Yellow/blue car.

While at the Nationals in Cincy this year we saw a '71? Cutlass S I believe that had cream
lace stripes on the OAI hood. The original owner painted them on the car when it was brand new. Not exactly my taste, but they were well done.

Heres Platinum with (blue) stripes. Diego's post also shows (red) avail on Platinum.... THAT would be cool!

Never seen the platinum with red but the red stripe is pretty rare. I think a forum member is doing a resto on a white W-30 with red stripes. I remember a W-31 out of the Rockford, IL area that was a low mileage racer with factory white and red stripes, too. The sebring yellow with the red to me is the wildest combo. Would love to know the origin of that car used in the test and where it ended up!

Back in the late '70s when I lived in western NY there was a junkyard near Lockport. I don't remember the name but the place was amazing!! Besides regular cars & trucks the guy had lots of muscle cars & vettes(he was really into vettes & ahead of his time). They were all organized by make. I saw the first '69 W32 that I'd ever seen there(didn't really know what it was at that time other than it had an automatic with OAI) It was a complete running car that was for sale. Anyway I was there with my buddy Russ looking for an engine to replace the one he blew apart in his '69 442. He was 17 & it was his first car. The guy takes us over to where all his Olds' were. He had a totaled '70 W30 that looked like it had been wrapped around a tree. It was platinum silver with the red stripes,it was stunning to say the least! Even though wrecked on the left side, the colors looked so cool together I never forgot the car & I've never seen another one like it. I haven't been up there in years but I'd bet the place got cleaned out in the late '80s during the first muscle car boom. Oh, the guy wanted the "outrageous" price of $400 without the carb!!(you could buy used engines all day long for $50 back then but he knew what he had & how special it was.It was a stick motor to boot!!Way too rich for a 17 yr olds budget! Try that today!!

Of the red striped cars, I have seen more '69 Platinum/red than any other year. One very nice car was a '68 Ram Rod 350 that was for sale at Homecoming about 15 years ago ($13k and nice) as it was Jade Gold with a parchment vinyl top and a red stripe to boot, a really nice car.

I agree,I've seen a few '69s with the platinum/red combo. gorgeous cars especially when they have the big stripes on the hood & a red interior. Don't forget, Olds for some reason, didn't offer a red interior in it's a-bodies for '70(pontiac & chebby still did)maybe that's why the platinum/red is so rare. Another awesome combo is the burgundy mist with red stripes, anyone have any pics of one?? There was a '68 W30 convert on Ebay a while back is was supposedly a real W30. It was ocean turquoise like my 442 with a red stripe on the fender,it looked pretty cool. Red wasn't a stripe color available with turquoise according the the color chart but we all know if you had the right salesman or dealership pretty much anything was possible. Found a couple of pics on the web,I like the white with the blue stripes

I will post some pics of it tomorrow, i only have a few that i scanned so quality is just ok but you will get the idea.
The car just arrived back home after a 22 year vacation on the east coast which only added about 1600 miles from when i sold in 1992. It was not driven but transported.
Not sure about putting the gold stripes back on as the paint looks pretty good and no reason to start over yet.
