Happy Halloween!

I started putting Fred on the hood of my '70 442 every October when it was in primer back in the late 90s. The 442 only got painted this past February, so I couldn't put Fred back up; however, I came across this Rallye last July. Since the the paint is a mediocre single-stage orange peel failure from the 80s, I had no problem reattaching Fred.

I took an old pair of levis, some hiking shoes, and three rolls of towels for each leg. The towels are taped together within the waist to prevent slippage through the bottom pantholes. String is run through the belt loops (the waistline is tucked into the scoop for a clean look) and back through the scoops and is tied off under the hood for a simple look that still allows the hood to opened. Hooks are attache to the back of the shoes that allows a secure connection to the inner lip of the bumper while not blocking either the running or headlights. Opening the hood merely requires unhooking the shoes and folding them over the hood; then the hood opens as it should. Kinda the same thing you do to your tie when you use the urinal.

The onlookers really get a kick outta Fred. He usually illicits a laugh/gafaw/gasp/look of bewilderment. By the way, I got a thumbs up from a pair of cops several years ago.

Thanks for the compliments everyone.

firefrost gold:

Come 11/1, Fred'll go back into the closet until 10/1/14. As for the car, I'll just keep working on her when I can. There's no real timeframe on her; just driver her and work on her at the same time.

You can have even more fun by doing something like this guy did, with the skeleton in the drive-through trick...
I got a good laugh out of it!

That is a magnificent effort; absolutely awesome creativity!!

I certainly won't get that level of shock, but I may catch a few drive-thru attendants off guard.

Hmmmm...which In-N-Out should I go to...?

That thought has already crossed my mind.

Over the past 15-ish years of using Fred, many have suggested ideas, along with a few of my own, as to who should assume Fred's actual identity. However, at this point, I'm trying to keep him a John Doe-I don't think a Jane Doe would be as convincing wearing man's levis and hiking boots.
