Guy from England

Has anyone of yuo been in contact with a Michael Lyons (from england),
Seems to me that it is a scam since he offered me gravel guards and rear gears to my olds directly after I posted an and on this forum.
Now he is saying that his server is so poor that he can't send pictures and will only take western union payment.

From THIS forum ?

Did you report the post to the Mods?

This is a common scam, though I hadn't heard of it here yet.

That's what I thought. I was hoping that he could have provided some pictures so I could find out from what web page they are borrowed.

Can you PM me his postal address?.

I can do a little research on this guy, if he isn't the genuine article I will notify some UK forums I use.

Guests can read the forums, but cannot post or open jpegs that are uploaded to the C.O. server. Guests never have user names either. You are being SCAMMED.

If you seriously are interested in 'gravel guards' please feel free to post on this site under the "Parts Wanted'. Specify what model, year and what you want.

As a further FYI, there are a number of people on this site such as 2blu442, (John) Oldspackrat (Scott) Jensenracing77 (Eric) 507OLDS (Brian) to name a few, who are incredibly fair and have an almost inexhaustible supply of Oldsmobile parts. It costs $$$ to ship across the pond, but if anyone has this stuff here it will likely be one of them.

If he wants western union, has no pics, and is overseas, then treat it like a scam. He had all three strikes in a row.
Of course, even if there is a picture, there is no guarantee it is even his part!

If you got a PM from a guy with 0 posts, then he may not even be a member. Do not reply.

If you find that reply, or any other posts that seem shady, report the post to a mod or admin, or just PM one of us so we can look into it.

And maybe have a few mates go 'round and "pay him a visit."

I had the same type of SCAM someone from England tried to pull on me a while back in reference to an add I placed wanting an original W30 intake. He was really adamant about the authenticity of it and even said he found a friend with a paypal acct since I denied him payment via western union. Anywho there were so many red flags it was pathetic so I told him to forget it and not to contact me again. Never heard from him since. Buyer beware especially for parts overseas. I recommend buying through paypal through a known and respectable seller.

I have posted in the Wanted section but only one has replied. He had a exhaust manifold.

The guy from England sent me a direct email to my email address.

Shipping is not a problem since I have a friend living in stevens point Wisconsin to who I always have all parts delivered.

Number one rule of internet transactions....DO NOT fall for the "Western Union" payment scam.

I checked this guy out, he comes out ok, but that doesn't mean much more than he either is squeaky clean or just hasn't been caught yet.

Payments for overseas transactions is a problem nowadays because of ever tighter security issues (or "Big Brother" watching us).
I used to pre book tickets for drag racing events and rodeos in the USA before I made my trips, but most USA venues won't accept credit cards with a billing address outside North America.
I think it unlikely you will find a better deal for American car parts outside North America, especially after factoring in shipping, taxes and duties etc.
I wouldn't look to America to find parts for an English car unless it was particularly hard to find anywhere, maybe a '20s Rolls Royce or similar. I don't think Oldsmobile parts are in that category yet.
