Great Road Trip..ducking corn
I took my 64 88 for a road trip thru MN and south Dakota. The car ran great I averaged @ 14 MPG. Lots of open county roads, lots of curves and no Troopers to ruin the trip.BUT while I was traveling down a country road a semi with freshly cut corn in its payload flew by me and unloaded a storm of corn flying of its trailor. I gather a guess that at least 50 corn cobbs flew into my car...it was a sight to see!!! I lucked out that the dozen or so that hit my window did not do any damage, they did however hit my side molding and pop it loose. I was able to pull over and secure it before it flew off.
When I stopped later in the day for a rest I noticed two corn cobbs had been stuck in th grille...again no damage.
A great trip of @ 800 miles...I do need to update the front end. The ole gal was a nail biter on tight curves. The front end is a little tired and a touch slow on commands.

Sounds like a nice drive, sans the corn... Where did you go?
Glad there was not any damage. That trucker should have had his load better secured.
I am looking forward to a nice long road trip soon...

I traveled from middle of Minn to Southern Minn. About 190 miles. I had my car in a Parade...that was my first....loved it. I went to South Dakota pass Michel to meet friends.
I made sure to take only secondary roads to see the sights.
I don't think the trucker had a cover on his corn. I figure the truck was traveling at 60mph and I in the opposite direction at 60mph. So using my HS math and watching Myth Busters
I figure the corn hit my car @ 100MPH. The thumping noise was hard to fathom.
Today when I checked my fluids I found corn in the engine compartment!!
I can't wait next year to update my suspension...those winding roads will be so much fun to drive. Right now you got to bite your lip as you go around those corners and hope the ole gal stays on pavement. It does keep me honest!!!

I have to admit, I did not know what it was flying thru the air at first. I looked and then holy @#$%^&!! You know there is no insulation on the hood.... the noise as they hit was like being in a drum. It will be a fun memory
