Goose neck

Any idea why some 69 442s came with a thermostat housing with a metal goose neck for the bypass and some came with the straight neck bypass where you needed the goose neck hose?
Hope i made some sense, don't want to look like a goose

I believe that the changeover from the thermostat housing with the small straight nipple and J-shaped hose to the water pump was superseded by the thermostat housing with the J-shaped nipple and straight hose between the '70 and '71 model years, because of problems with the long J-shaped hoses (and need for a more expensive special hose instead of a cheaper short piece of regular hose).
I may be wrong, but... '69 and '70 should both have the straight nipple / J-shaped hose it they're original.
