Gas Tank Sending Unit

I replaced the Gas Tank and Sending unit in my 72 442 Convertible
Now when I fill it up with gas it only reads 3/4 full
is there a way to calibrate it or some other way to solve this ,short of replacing it with a new unit

This is the unit I installed, it is from Spectra Premium
Thanks for your help as always

you can bend the float rod down a little. if it never worked right to start with it could be you dont have the stock tank.

A more important question: Does the sender give you an accurate reading when the tank is close to empty?

Not uncommon for Spectra and other aftermarket senders to be a little "off". Was involved with this same discussion a few yrs ago on another forum. As I recall, they should read about 95 Ohms when bench tested (highly recommended before installing) with float in raised position (Full)...and, around 5-8 Ohms with float in lowered position (Empty).

I think today is my day to enlighten people! There is not a repro that I know of that works like an original. You can bend the arm, you can pray over it before you put it in, you can take it in and out 3 times...none of the repros I've ever tried worked like an original. You either have yours rebuilt, or live with it. They work, just not the same.

uh huh. I replaced mine 3 years ago. Doesn't even register. Checked the ground and the wiring to the front. It's the dang sender. Hate spending $$ on crap that doesn't work. Now I have to replace it, which means dropping the tank- again. I replaced my OEM one just because it was time for a new tank (leaks) and I was in the process of rebuilding the back end. Mistake learned.

if you bend to read full, it will have a little extra near empty, that's not a bad thing.
