gas tank

I just bought a 51 Olds out of a 15 year sleep in a trailer. The gas tank was removed and was sitting in the trunk. Of course it is rusty inside (the outside looks nicely painted).

So here is my question how good are the kits, like from Eastwood or POR 15? Are they worth my time or would I be better off having it dipped and coated? This is going to be a low budget resto for now. It is original except that it has a crappy paint job of an original color but not to this car.

Thanks

For the time and cost, I would do what my son did, and take it to a radiator shop, and have it cleaned, and they coated the inside. They for sure are able to get the inside cleaner than you probably can.

I agree with the radiator shop route.

X2. I did my original tank that way when it developed a leak back in 84. They did a heck of a good patch job and also cleaned the inside and coated it. Only thing they didn't do was put all the gas back in..... but back then gas was only about a buck/gallon.

Also a good thing to consider? That original tank is a guaranteed fit!
