FYI Quadrajet issues solved
Our 71 442 ran strong last year with an old 1967 442 carb, it ran over 103 miles per hour in the 1/4 mile. I put on a 1971 442 carb because the old 67 carb started leaking because the float design isn't the best on the earlier carbs. I ran the car a few weeks back and it only went 97mph but we were quartering into a hard wind. I noticed the car did not like to be in 4th gear at 30mph because it would shake and run rough. The carb also required alot of gas pedal movement to get going. I noticed the 71 carbs had different metering rods and jet sizes. I replaced the size 70 jets in the 71 carb with size 71 jets from the 67 carb and installed the metering rods from the 67 carb and it made a huge difference. The car is smoother at low rpm and it smokes the tires like crazy once again. The off idle responce is much better also. I got a feeling it'll be over 100mph again. Anyone out there run bigger jets than 71's on a fairly stock engine?
