when i connect my battery ..my tail lights comes on and wont go out unless i disconnect my battery..any ideal what it can be?

 

If tail lights(running lights) check light switch in dash

If brake lights check brake light switch at peddle.

 

okay will check now...its the runnings lights...also the blinkers are not working....seem to stay solid....maybe a bad bulb?..by da way thanks Don L/442

 

Its one of two things. Either a faulty switch or a short in the wiring. Bust out the wiring diagram and figure out which it is. Its an extremely easy circuit to diagnose.

OK, first, how did you determine that the problem is the tail lights and not the brake lights? I ask because the turn signal wiring is part of the brake light circuit - they use the same filaments in the bulbs. If the turn signal wiring or switch in the column had a problem, it could account for both of your symptoms.

 

I have a question? The brake lights switch is wired hot all the time. For the running lights to come on the key would have to be on. So for the blinkers to work the key would have to be on.

Have you check the blinkers with the key on. If the tail lights are on when the battery cable is hooked up then it sounds like the brake lights. That would make me think brake light switch is bad or needs to be adjusted.

 

okay i changed out all the fuses and bulbs....the issue with the turn signal is ressolved it was the bulb.... its the tail running lights....because when i push the brakes it lights up brighter......i guess my next option is da switch

 

Pull the TAIL fuse and see if they go out. If so, the switch would be the next culprit. If they stay on, then there is a short elsewhere in the circuitry.

Nope, that is not correct. Both the brake lights and the tail lights (and headlights) work without the key. The turn signals do require the key, but the brake light wiring passes through the turn signal switch. Consult your chassis service manual.
