Front air dam on a '69

Happy Easter to all!

My '69 likes to run warm in the summer and I've thought of running a front air dam under the radiator to see if it would help. I know that it didn't have one from the factory. Thinking of installing an air dam from a G body Cutlass. Has anyone else out there tried this?

Currently my car does not have a shroud on it but will be getting one soon.

I'm sure the the shroud will help quite a bit. Why not use the air dam
that goes with the a body? I have one of the air dams if needed.

A body air dam

Thanks Tru Blue...can you post a photo of the A body air dam you have? I guess I've never seen one.

Sure. The 2nd pic looks like cracks, but those are just scratches.

First, every single 1969 Cutlass that left the factory had an air deflector (not an "air dam" under the front bumper. It was two pieces, a flat part that closed out the gap between the bumper and core support and an angled part that deflected air up into the grille instead of under the car. If that is missing from your car, replace it. These cars did not overheat from the factory, so putting it back to stock is a good place to start.

I think Joe hit the nail on the head. I do not know if you are running a stock radiator but in a stock scenario there are 'several' pieces that are used to close gaps around the radiator area and all of them indeed do help more than you would think. I think all should be listed in a 1969 Cutlass assembly manual.

Air Dam

Thanks to all. I need to pull my car out of storage and take a good look. Besides the missing fan shroud, I'm guessing that I'm missing the deflector and dam. I may be giving Tru-blue a call on his parts...

Not missing

The good news is that my car has the factory air dam. I'll install the shroud this week and have my radiator flushed and checked as a precaution. Thanks for your help.
