Freaking potholes!

How are the roads in your area??? Live in Westchester County , N.Y. Can't stand it. Pay one of the highest taxes in the country and have the worst F-in streets. Replaced two tires and a rim this month. I know nobody likes a complainer, just want to complain!

Here in DC we get something almost as fun as pot holes. On the beltway they're almost always doing construction. When they don't finish during the overnight, they put steel mats down on the roadway to cover the holes until they come back the next night. Hitting a 1 inch thick metal sheet at 70mph is no fun. Even better, sometimes they move because of all of the traffic going over them and people wind up destroying their undercarriages hitting a crater at speed.

Here in Pittsburgh with the snow and Ice and Salt And Cinders and Brine, now that the streets are clear and its warming up We have Potholes opening up, and Everyone has Heard about our Bridge collapse, and Bridge closures
because of rotted beams and supports, WE also have the Highest gas Tax that was supposed to be going to the Road and Bridge Repair, so who ended up with the Money? We have a pothole Hotline because of the severity of them!

I live in Detroit..it's horrible. They actually fixed a road on my way to work and made it perfect! Then they ripped it up again, and laid down something even worse that it originally was.

Darn, and here I thought the potholes here were the worst. IMO, the biggest problem is the lack of supervision and motivation of the repair crews. Every time, and I am not exagerating, that I see a city crew working on the streets (or sidewalks, etc.) there is usually 1 to 2 people working and 5 or 6 of them standing around shooting the bull. What a freakin waste of resources. They need more workers working and less supervising....

THAT blows my mind. They do a lot of "micro surfacing", I believe is the term, around here. Sometimes, it's worse than the patched stuff they ground out.

I live on a gravel road. It is frozen and mostly smooth. Sometimes you are able to lay a patch of rubber.

I live in a western suburb of New Orleans. In the suburb, things are "reasonable". In the City of New Orleans, the streets belonging to the City are for the most part very sad. I refuse to drive on some of them. The US routes and the Interstate routes within the City are much better. They are maintained by the State of Louisiana.
I was born in Westchester County a long time ago. I left when I was less that one year old. I have been back a few times since then, but would not want to live there; too much taxes; too much regulation; too cold in the winter; too many people. And now I find out, the roads are too sad. Many of the manufacturers have moved from Westchester County. You can do the same probably.
Here are some New Orleans potholes.

Same here in kern county CA. Pot holes everywhere. Good thing I drive 4 Wheel drive. The main street right next to my neighborhood has been opened up and repaved/ repaired I think 5 times now, and each time the surface quality is worse than the last. Makes me wonder where the tax dollars are going. There is a quilted patch work of repairs going on all over town with no clear indication that anyone has a plan for any long term repairs.

Technology is allowing trash trucks to digitally map out pot holes. There are a few places in the USA already adopting this process. This should improve the repair process by a lot.

Yeah Zeke, NY’s infrastructure is getting VERY old. I never really thought about it until I came to Florida. The roads are smooth, bridges are relatively new, streets are wide…
When I go back to NY now to visit I’m shocked to see what things look like. Bridges and their concrete abutments look like their about to rust through and collapse. Roads are absolutely dreadful.

^^^THIS^^^

Edmond, OK has had repairs going on a few major intersections for 18 months plus. It makes me wonder if they even have a plan.

Where I live in Logan county there's a small crumbling bridge over a gulley with a sign that says WPA 1935. It's a 2 lane bridge but the county just put a stop sign on one side of the bridge because of increased traffic. If my wife and I stay here another 12+ years I can see the city and county needing to change the 2 lane road into a 4 lane boulevard like in the city.

Yesterday driving home from work at 5 p.m. rush hour, saw these poor highway department guys out there standing in the back of a pickup, rolling down the road about 5 mph. They were shoveling black top into these holes. Crazy! How about paying these guys a little o.t. and go out at night when there is little or no traffic a repair properly. I know... county doesn't have the funds for that. B.S!

I guess that shows the highway department is working on roads and your tax dollars at work. I am guessing it eliminates a lot of calls complaining about potholes....where is the money being spent........why aren't roads being fixed

Your right . I'm sure they are getting a lot of calls. That one particular stretch there were about 4 or 5 cars with there hazards on last week. Good question.... Why aren't the roads getting fixed? Its not just the local roads either. It's state roads as well. I hit a hole on the Taconic State Parkway last week, thought my dashboard was going to crash into my lap. Welcome to N.Y.

My town and the next one over have a reporta pothole feature on their website. Both towns have a potfill tool that dispenses hot fill mix and compresses it as well. The refilled ones done like this are pretty good.

the nearby highways have crews out 1-2 times a week weather permitting, but some big holes have popped up recently due to big temp fluctuations especially at bridge joints.

It's going to get worse around here in northern CT with 60 degrees predicted on Wednesday. Below/Above freezing weather equals pothole city.

And on that note, how about that turnoff on Westbound I-84 in Brewster, NY to get to I-684 south? That overpass was just completely re-done not too long ago and it's a shambles again with monster potholes. It slows down traffic chronically, spilling way back onto W I-84 sometimes for miles.

Funny you mentioned that ramp. Went on that yesterday heading to Somers. Glad I was in company truck. Unbelievable!
