Found a Olds Carb. need help please
I found an Olds Quadra jet in a wrecking yard, and it was setting a shelf for some time. In the process of restoring it had to be completely stripped to get it clean. I mean its down to the raw aluminum. I am hoping it is not a complete loss, with the carb kit I'm in it for $100.00 at this point. The fuel bowl is clean now but has a rough (raw) finish in all the areas including the accelerator pump cavity.
Is this a concern? does it need to be polished or smoothed out? can alodine be used to recoat the surfaces? I was going to get the carb paint from Eastwood to repaint the outside.
Please help me out!

The accelerator pump bore is not a precision orifice so I wouldn't worry about it. Of course your definition of rough and mine might be different. I suppose you could have increased seal wear but they are cheap. Get one that is alcohol resistant.

Thanks for the replies.
What did I clean it with? standard over the counter carb. cleaner the kind in the bucket with a basket and yes it will strip the finish off if left over night. This carb was really varnished up.
I found a carb shop that refinishes with a rebuild and test run for $350.00. All I'll have to do is bolt it on and maybe make a minor adjustment. For now I'll be putting the Edelbrock back on but at least I'll have a true 1972 Olds Carb. in my parts bin for later. Will be sending it off when I have the money to do it right.
