Flush mount windshield

I'm looking for a flush mount windshield for my '69 442. Does anyone know where I can get one?

Thanks!

What is a flush mount vs the standard '69 windshield?

Flush mount gets rid of the trim and puts the glass tight to the paint. It's usually custom work, and should be done on the rear, too, for aesthetic purposes. It would be easier to find for a same year Chevelle, but I don't know if they interchange.

Windshields are the same as Chevelle. Back window is not.

Wow, be sure to read the fine print. They do cartwheels to get out of liability.

Do some research on Pro-touring.com. There was a guy on there about 2 years ago that had lots of problems fitting Fesler glass and couldn't get any satisfaction after the sale.

Windshield material and method of installation is both regulated by federal law and required to be crash tested. Any injuries in an accident is the owner's problem, not the glass company. But hey, it's only $1800. Maybe it's just me, but I can think of higher priority ways to spend that much on the car.

I've learned that the Chevelle front/back kit should work. Now the 1800 dollar part! Does anyone have a picture of a 442 with them?

Thanks for all the help!

The 1969 Chevelle back window is NOT the same size or shape as on a 1969 Cutlass.

I've been contemplating doing this to my car. From what I have seen, it's better to use the factory glass and do the fabrication to fill the gaps. Those kits are too expensive with poor fitment and very low quality glass. Not to mention the difference in replacement cost between factory glass and the aftermarket glass.

That is an excellent point, by the way. Pick up one stone chip, and your insurance company is going to give you a brand new $200 stock windshield, not an $1800 custom one.

You're in the realm of custom work. Either you're a body guy and confident doing this stuff yourself, or you need to find a shop that you trust to do the work and just hand them a blank check.

That's just what it takes. This type of thing isn't done very often.

What about powder coating the back glass trim body color and doing a flush mount windshield? Are the tolorances too tight for the pieces to be powder coated?

Yeah, that's the first thing that turned me off from these "kits" , then I had a couple in my hands. These were both bought by an acquaintance of mine, one was for a camero and the other a chevelle. He had me look at them to give him an idea of how to proceed. When I saw them, the glass was wavy, delaminated in several areas and did not fit the opening. I told him he's better off throwing them in the trash and forgetting it, or pay me a wad of cash to make it work. He had some shop in SLC do it and it looks like ***.

I powder coated all of my trim semi-gloss black. "Tolerances" is using the word extremely loosely (har har) for body trim from this era.
