Strange question - working on my 72 Cutlass that was a column to floor shift conversion. Hooking up the back drive that was missing with hopes of getting the neutral safety/reverse switch working again (picked up the needed linkage at the 2021 OCA Nationals swap meet). When I got it to shift/move it felt a little crunchy and this piece flew out from somewhere and landed on the driver floor. Any idea what I broke?
That is the link that actuated the gear indicator in the speedo. The plastic tab hanging on the wire indicates that the indicator in the speedo is now broken.

Get The Heck Out. Someone has been aroused ND a boat load of cars. Awesome Joe. Thanks for everyone.
As Joe stated what it is. You don't need since you have a shift indicator on the console.
Do you have a floor shift speedometer? If so it wasn't even hooked up.

Given that the tab hanging off the wire in the photo is from the original column shift speedo, and the OP said it was converted, I'm guessing the current speedo is still for a column shift.
