So the car is on the outside of the space ship? I read the article twice and still don't see what the point of all this is, except Musk must be a nut with too much money.

I watched the launch today. It was in the cargo bay with a "starman" doll in the drivers seat. It was a test of the heaviest rocket ever launched. It is supposed to be the one that can reach other planets. The capsule with the car will be in orbit with the planets from what I understand. It was launched with three booster rockets that only 2 were recovered and reusable. I do not know how much the taxpayers subsidize Space X, but Tesla can now advertise they have the first car in space.

He had stated he was going to launch with the silliest test payload he could think of, and decided on his personal roadster.
The way their booster rockets land remind me of the many sci-fi movies I watched as a kid, and I just get amazed by it.

Of course, I thought about the Corvette in the beginning of the Heavy Metal movie.

Or repo man

But I did say production car.
Space X is finding a way to commercialize rocket launching. The big step is re-use of the rocket boosters. Making a business of launching satellites is a tremendous undertaking.

Amazing launch.
The plan is to put the roadster in an orbit that carries it around the sun so that it travels between Earth & Mars...forever.

Best dashcam pic ever.

Your pic didn't show up Patrick. I agree that it's cool that a new heavy lift rocket is available. I wish they mentioned how much weight the Falcon Heavy can lift vs. the Saturn V. The Saturn V is HUGE, there is one near Hunstville, AL at Redstone Arsenal that can be seen through out the city.

Most people would agree that launching a billion dollar rocket that overshoots it's target would be a failure, but not Musk.....

Keep praising him..... he loves it.....

Interesting, the article Patrick linked says the Falcon Heavy is "the biggest rocket since Saturn V..."

The article Mike linked says the Falcon Heavies "are twice as strong as the Saturn V rockets..."

Too bad they didn't give us more info. I guess I will have to do a Google search now. BTW, I had to do a double take on the name of the author of the article Patrick linked.

When he sells the product once working to the highest bidder , like he already shown he will, and it is those that want us thrown back to the shone age, wonder how wonderful you'll find him.
