fighting with the parts place

What does Olds call a 1965 cutlass 2 door post car? Is it a Sports Coupe? I am looking for the rear ashtrays for my car. Parts place list some for a coupe or a different set ( number) for a convertable . I ordered for the coupe. Got them today and they are wrong. After calling them the rep (a_s hole) said a coupe did not have a post on the door . and that is why the do not fit.

Correct.

Two-door post: Sports Coupe
Two-door hardtop: Holiday Coupe

For non-Cutlass F-85, the two-door post car was called Club Coupe

By the way, terminology can be vague here. For most situations, "coupe" means 2-door and "sedan" means 4-door.

But I've seen 2-door cars with a post referred to as a "2-door sedan" in sales literature. Thus it's the post that makes it a sedan and not the four doors. But I've never seen a four-door, center post or not, called a "coupe" in any literature.

Maybe an ashtray for the rear door on a four-door would fit on your car.

I believe the correct way too describe your car would be a 2 door post, I know that's not what Olds called it but that's what everyone else calls it.

Describe the rear armrests, Are they full length, running beside the seat, or are they smaller and attached to the side panel with screws? The ashtrays are different between these two styles.

Olds generally used the smaller ones only on bottom-line F85 cars. Lot of mid-size Chevrolets used them though and the ashtrays would be the same.

If you have the full length armrests, the convertible pieces should have fit.

Rocketraider,The arm rests are the smaller ones that are held on by 2 screws. My ash trays measure about 2'' square by 2'' deep. There is a bezel that fits in the arm rest that is held in by some tabs that you bend against the arm rest. Thanks Rick

Check with some of the Chevy vendors. My guess is they'll have them. I suspect the ones PP sent you are for the full length armrests.

It is possible, however the help at PP wasn't very nice when I told him I had a Sports Coupe. He said that is is a sedan. But PP does not sell ones far a sedan,a coupe or a vert. That is why I ordered the coupe version and they did fit. On to another vendor Thanks

Then the PP guy isn't very fluent in Olds-speak. Try another vendor. One of the Chevelle or Pontiac vendors should have it, or maybe even see if Fusick has them.

Rocketraider That is what I am going to do. I have had it with PP and their attitude. On this sale one bad apple did spoil the bunch.
