Fan shroud 1972 question

I have a 72 442 with no ac and no fan shroud. I ordered a new one since every cutlass I've seen has a shroud, but there is nowhere to bolt it up. Then got to thinking and was wondering did non ac cars not have the shroud and no clutch fan? help me with this please.

If the pics in your photobucket are current, then the radiator top plate you have isn't an Oldsmobile one.
Do you have a 4 row radiator? if so, this is what you need:

The lower mounts for the fan shroud are located down below the radiator and have an upward angle to them.

Sorry midrange, his pic below does show the correct radiator top plate for a non-A/C Cutlass/442 in 1972, whether it has a 350 or 455.

No fan shroud, no fan clutch - just a 4 blade fan.

Wow, I didn't know this. Thanks for the info.
So if dewcrazzy wants to install a shroud, he's gonna have to drill some holes in his current top plate, or buy a four core plate?
Are the tabs factory installed in the lower area for the bottom of the shroud or will he have to fab some up?

no bottom tabs are installed either. It never runs hot anyway, just was wondering why it didn't have a shroud.

Don't forget, the top plate for an A/C car non 4 core has one set of holes. If I'm not mistaken, a 4 core plate has two sets. Someone correct me if I'm wrong please.....

Likely because it didn't need one. The shrouds were for extra cooling that was needed for 455s or AC cars. My car (72 Cutlass S) only came with a 2 row core and no HD or shroud. I'm adding HD cooling because my engine was running pretty hot for awhile till I advanced the timing a bit. I'm also adding a 4 row core rad. Depending on what rad your car has, it may be almost vertical, or may be angled about 3° off vertical

You're right Erik.

This is a 4 row core on a 1971 Cutlass. Note saddle extensions for rad, and double holes as you noted.

This is the 3 row radiator AC rad top plate
