Fair price for a 65 442?

Can anyone give me a ballpark of what would be a fair price for a 65 442 holiday coupe, orig drivetrain, litle rust, automatic? I have not seen in person yet but it could be driven while worked on? Any anyone who owns or has owned, what is your opinion of the Jetaway? I have owned a few jetaway cars but nothing high performance.

That's an asking price. Asking prices mean nothing. What it SELLS for is what matters, and we never learn that from a craigslist ad.

From the latest (January/February 2021) Olds Cars Price Guide. The values are for condition levels 6 through 1 going left to right. From your description of the car, with "a little rust," it's probably #4, which is "runs and drives but needs restoration." #3 is "car show condition" while #2 is "showroom."

From this, maybe $8,000 to $10,000?

Jetaway is a handicap to both price and performance.

65 442 pricing

I've owned many and have paid anywhere from 3500-34,000. On average a car as you discribed I've normally paid 7500. Of course a lot more information would be needed to provide a more realistic assessment. In all reality the market is very small when compared to other mid 60s car. The one in the craigslist reference is not a 35K car. Maybe 1/2 the asking price. Ask any one that has bought and sold 65s and most will tell you the same. If you're buying for value look elsewhere....you will spend double if not more working on one than you will ever get back unless something very special. Yes, the auto reduces value, but not all that much specially on average cars most of us own. On a high dollar show cars 35$k and up it can impact 5k$ or so. Cars you often see advertised by dealers are worth about 1/2 what they are asking. One of the nicest nut and bolt restored cars that started with a rust free body and was a hardtop sold for 48k after being on the market for over a year. Seller had way into 70$k on the car. Point 65 442 do not carry the value of cars in it's peer group. We (l) buy them because I personally think they are the nicest looking, driving, and sounding cars of that era.

I had a 1966 442 with Jetaway and 3.23 rear. Stock original sold condition over 100,000 miles. Engine still had plenty of oomph and the transmission was great. I did not race it on the street or the track. But she opened up real nice 1-2 shift was around 5000 RPM. Eventually the 400 developed an oil burning problem, but the transmission remained perfect and smooth shifting.

Yes and yes.

1965 and 1966 442 Jetaways are 15.5 @ 90 MPH cars. Same performance as a 1969 Cutlass Supreme 3speed auto with 310 HP. The 40 additional HP the 442 is rated at is non existent because of the 2 speed transmission... And 65/66s are switch pitch converter.

I dispute that it is a real 442, the scoops appear to be placed crooked, and the bucket seats have the Holiday side trim opposed to the sport coupe. And that’s only what I can see from the photos.

I don’t see it doesn't look original, wiring under hood nor interior. How about documentation, and history of the car since new. What I see is 15,000. If you scroll through General Discussion, find and read the one about the 1969 blue 442 now that’s a car that might bring that kind of money. You can hire an appraiser to see what his thoughts are.Yes it will cost you, and what is it worth to you. Hope it helps

The OP didn't post any pictures of the car he's considering.
