Hello all! New to the scene here but I am currently building my exhaust from scratch with the help of my auto "YODA". He is cruisin a 69 Merc Cougar w/ headers, x pipe, and short turndowns. The biggest thing he has going for him is his mufflers though. Has any one heard of spintech mufflers? His sound has me hooked so I am doing something similar to my 67 cutlass for that deep rumble. His car is loud and angry, this thing sounds like a beast! Check them out! My friend is running pro street 9000(loud and agressive) and I will soon be running sportsman street 3000 (classic, deep rumble). I included some pics of my new gear. I will let you know how it turns out.

Sounds awesome. The Magnoflows don't sound to bad either, they seem to get a little deeper of a sound:

Joffroi - Not sure what sound you are after but I can here the drone that is going to happen on that Mango Flow system. That is pretty close to how my new system sounds and it is coming off today Can't stand the sound and the drone is terrible between 30 and 40 miles per hour. No muscle car sound at all more like a European car now. I am no expert (becoming one fast though), if you are looking for the old sound you may be happier with the Dynomax system. Can't comment on X or H but I am going back to straight duals to get my chug back.

Thanks BigJerr it sounds sweet but my wife would kill me. LOL

Thanks for all your help guys - problem solved.
Went with straight duals 2 1/2" custom bent and standard turbo mufflers.
No X No H and the sound is exactly what I am looking for.
I still may want some opinions at the Nationals.

Since my Cutlass has single (and leaky) exhaust I am hoping to be happy with my Pypes system. (stainless X pipe)
I did, what I thought was a bunch of research before I bought them.
I went with Racepro mufflers, which seems a lot like the Magnaflows.
I am sure it will be a major improvement over whats there now.

I am a little paranoid about it sounding like a BMW.

easy answer to exhaust dilemma, headers, 2.5 to 3 in exhaust, flowmaster!!!, I wish I would have H piped mine. The drone or weird noise you have when you get after it is caused by the xpipe thats what they do, weird sound, some like it some don't! Done! Mine sounds great except my leak on my headers that i cant get figured out

Headers, 2.5 in thru Magnaflows, no "X" or "H" pipe, out the back with turndowns. Has no drone and definately does not sound like a BMW!!!

I recently had my exhaust done flowmaster 40 series mufflers,h pipe and stainless 3" pipes. He did not bend any of the pipes but used 3" rings of pipe and cut what he needed to create the bends and welded it all together, he also installed a foot of 3" braided flex coming off the the headers to accomodate when the engine rocks. Looks great, sounds awesome but $1300!

I just put Inlinetube's factory correct system on my car and can't say enough about how HAPPY I am with how it looks, fits, and SOUNDS!! AND, no more drone that I got with the Magnaflow system that was on there when I bought it. It is factory-correct 2 1/4" pipe into mufflers then 2" tailpipes and sounds unbelievable. Definately for the purist like me though because I'm sure it's more restrictive that the 2.5" system I had. HIGHLY recommend for someone who wants a factory-correct system.

I put a pypes 2.5 inch exhaust with street pro mufflers on my 1971 cutlass. It was a big difference over the stock single exhaust. It sounds nice and its kinda loud at idle even thought I dont have headers.
