Exhaust Gas Analyzer Tuning?
Exhaust Gas Analyzer Tuning?
Has anyone here used an exhaust gas analyzer for tuning an engine in the car? This is something I have been interested in for several years now but never looked into it. I have not even priced or researched them on a simple google search yet. Just wondering if it is something that is effective and how hard they are to understand the information they give.
Any thoughts or experience?

We used to use them when adjusting idle fuel mixtures after a carb rebuild back in the day. At the dealerships we could look up what the factory spec was and set it up accordingly. Not sure what CO and Hc readings you would be looking for on a modded engine. We also used them to sniff for CO in the radiator to diagnose blown head gaskets. Pretty handy piece of equipment to have around if you can find a good one.
I was taught how to use a spark and 5 gas analyzer (O2, CO, CO2, NoX, HC) many years ago in college. While it was a cool piece of equipment to use I think for a classic car you wouldn't need all of the functionality of the analyzers used by professional dealerships. The tool that would be most useful for folks like us would be an O2 sensor or air/fuel meter.
