Exhaust

Well, I got the Cutty in storage just in time before it started snowing here. Next year my big project is dual exhaust and some SS II's. The SS II's are easy, but I'm a little lost on the exhaust. What do I need to eliminate that crossover pipe and get true dual exhaust? Can anyone here hook me up?

Assuming this is a 350, the factory used a cap on the extra hole on the passenger side manifold. You can buy repros of the cap or make one from the remains of the crossover pipe. Beyond that, the choice is yours. I like the Pypes Exhaust brand 2.5" system with Walker Dynomax mufflers. Pypes makes down pipes to fit your Olds manifolds and mate up with the rest of their system if you are not using headers. Your 1974 should already have a double hump crossmember.

Correct, it is the 350 Rocket. And it does have the double hump tranny crossmember. I was thinking there was an exhaust manifold out there from another Olds application that didn't have the extra hole for the crossover pipe that I could swap in place of the one that was on there. But now that I think about it, manufacturing a plug or cap would be the best bet to go with. That way I wouldn't have to mess with removing the manifold. I'm sure my Dad or little brother can weld something up out of heavy gauge pipe that will last awhile. But we all know Murphy is out there and we all know I'm going to snap the bolts that hold the pipes to the manifolds. That's in my contingency plan. Never heard of Pypes Exhaust, but that's my next stop as soon as I hit post.

15x7 SSIII's may be a better choice for a '74. Most likely what you meant anyway but it will help your shopping if you search for SSIII's.

A company called Ram Air Restoration has true dual exhaust manifolds for small block olds.
No cross over pipe provision.
