Engine RPM.. Is it me!!

Hi all, just a quickie, I have a '63 Starfire, driving at 50mph the engine is doing around 2600rpm is it me or is this a little high? The transmission appears to change into top gear ok. The car does have 20" rims on it but I would have thought that this would have lowered the rpm. I have checked that the speedo is give or take right by comparing speed to a sat nav. I haven't had the car long enough to really check the fuel consumption as I have not taken it on a good run yet. I previously had a '63 Dynamic and I don't remember it revving anywhere near this. Any ideas as to what it should be revving at?
I would appreciate any information thanks.

2600 rpm sounds close to what it should be at highway speed.

It all depends on what the gear ratio in the rear end is along with the tire diameter, not the rim diameter.

2600-2800 is close on a Starfire. Those have 3.42 gearing. Odds are your 88 had 2.73-3.08 range.

Tyre diameter is 28". Perhaps it is just me then. The exhaust is noisier so perhaps can hear more than I did before. Thanks guys for putting my mind at rest.
