Anyone ever use there rebuilt dampers or motor mounts?

They wanted big $$ to rebuild motor mounts for a 69 442.
Just not a practical option, looks like nos, good used, other, or china

Read the comments on this forum under the "big blocks" section about damper doctor. Search is your friend.

"Rebuilding" the mounts means completely removing all the old rubber, cleaning the metal brackets, fabricating a mold to fit the original shape, and molding/vulcanizing new rubber. This is not a simple process. New mounts are less expensive because they are mass produced and the tooling and process gets amortized over tens of thousands of parts. All that cost goes on one pair when you have them custom rebuilt.

I new that they would not come close to aftermarket pricing. What I did not expect was that they would equal or exceed Nos.
Thanks for the feed back.

The current asking price for an NOS mount is completely unrelated to what it cost to make. Most sellers of NOS parts either bought them in a batch for pennies on the dollar or bought them decades ago for then new pricing. Asking price today is what the seller thinks the market will bear.

A business building (or rebuilding) mounts today needs to figure direct costs, indirect costs, and a reasonable profit. I have no idea if the price you were quoted is reasonable or not. I only know that you can't compare the two prices.

250 per mount 500 for a pair.
I understand that they have to make a profit and that this service is valuable for those that have no other option.
This is not negative feedback the price is what it is.
I just don't think it is practical for the average Oldsmobile enthusiast.
I have nothing against the Damper doctor and think they provide a valuable service.
The reason I posted go Nos ,good used, other,Chna was because I don't think it is a viable for the majority looking for engine mount options.

The correct NOS 455 mounts also cost $500 now.

A short piece of chain or cable , between a exhaust manifold bolt and an "A" arm shaft on the driver side can do wonders toward keeping a "Chinesium " mount together .

I was thinking the NOS mounts are for the high dollar builds,100 point restorations or original W cars etc.
If I was going to spend $500 on engine mounts I would want NOS GM factory units.
