Emissivity, Emissivity, where for art thou Emissivity

I recently purchased a Klein infrared thermometer, as I suspect my rally gauge is reading high and I am leaning toward the sensor. (Plus, I have wanted one for a while.)

I have been trying to find out what emissivity cast iron and cast aluminum should be measured, and I am having trouble finding it.

ok metallurgist, Go.

It depends upon the surface of the object. At work for the FLIR camera we use a thin coat of flat black spray paint so we don't have to do any compensation and the emissivity is close to 1. The same reason why radiators are painted black.
