Edelbrock carb on stock manifold
Can someone please confirm if I can bolt an Edelbrock carb onto a stock olds 4 barrel intake.
This is a 71 350 and an Edelbrock 600 cfm carb

Yes you can bolt the Edelbrock carb on the stock intake,the mounting holes line up. As you can see in the pics the butterflies will not open. You should use the adapter that Edelbrock sells or change the intake to a square bore intake.

Wow, that is the answer I was looking for. There is a nice looking cast iron 4 barrel intake on ebay about to end. I bought the Edelbrock carb and still need a manifold. I will probably buy the performe to macth the carb.

A rebuilt Quadrajet, set-up correctly, will give better mileage and performance, look stock, and be easier to install!
The Performer manifold wil accept either, and be about 30 lbs. lighter.

You will get a million different opinions on carb choice. If you bought the Edelbrock carb then put it on your stock intake with an adapter or get an aftermarket intake. I'm sure you will be happy with it. The key is to setup the carburetor properly. If you don't do this then you are just shooting yourself in the foot.

I now have the carb and edelbrock manifold. What else should I have on my parts list to start and finish this job?
Gaskets?
Valley Pan?
Sealant?
It is winter here so I have alot of time to do this job.

There is a bracket you may need for the throttle cable sheath to connect to, it bolts on the rear two mounting bolts. I got a NOS piece at the local Chevy dealer when I converted from a two to 4 barrel Edel.
Various pipe plugs, brass plumbers plugs look very good for plugging unused holes in the manifold. The Edel carb is pretty straight foward and works very well.
If your performer manifold has the EGR provision it may interfear with the Edel carburetor, check before changing your manifold.

Well I have all of the parts and the stock two b manifold is on the floor. While fitting the gaskets I see that the edelbrock ports are quite a bit smaller than the ports on the head and the ports on the stock manifold for that matter. The gasket matches the head while there is alot of aluminum showing in comparison to the gasket.
I have all of the tools I need to open these ports and my question is will it make any difference in performance. It seems odd that a "performer" manifold wouldnt maximize the size of the ports.
motor in question is a fresh (6000 miles) 350 with #7 heads, a w-31 spec cam (can get the specifics if needed) 9:1 pistons stock exhaust manifolds with dual 2.25 exhaust.
I am only building a streetable cruiser and all out performance isnt that important to me. It will cost me nothing to open the ports but dont want to waste the time if it will not matter.

Since that manifod is 'universal', and covers the 260 engine, it starts small.
Any uninteruption of flow will help a motor!
Don't know what equiptment you have to open the manifold, but I've found WD-40 won't allow build-up of material - -

I have scribed the line by using the gasket and started opening up the ports. I use a bar of wax that if touch the rotory file to and it keeps the file pretty clean. If I get too aggresive it can get clogged up but I just take my time and it is turning out pretty well.
It should be running by next weekend. Then onto the multiple leaks in the trans.
