dual snorkel air cleaner ?

dual snorkel air cleaner ?

I was looking for pictures of 64 cutlass emblems and came across this....

It sold at barrett jackson


Am I missing something or is this the "California emissions" air cleaner
Also the engine color looks really yellow to me.... i know this sold 13 years ago now but wow

Pretty sure that is a Toronado air cleaner housing.

that very well could be... is that the normal placement of the coil? I cant recall ever seeing it there..

Yep. Toronado Air cleaner.
And my coil is mounted on the manifold('65)

mounting the coil on the firewall gets it away from the intake manifold heat. Heat is a killer for ignition coils.

And is proof positive why "caveat emptor" should be your mantra with any auction car unless you know the individual who built it.

Sometimes that's even more reason to be wary...

They would have been miles ahead to acquire two ‘64 standard air breathers and grafted a second snorkel onto one of them.

No, apparently with a little red paint and repro emblems, they conned someone into paying $36K.

I'll bet this car has an E-brock carb, which is why then needed an air cleaner with the larger carb opening.
