Dual gate vs regular shifters

Will a console that has been cut out for a dual gate shifter still take the factory shifter....what needs to be done to make it work.

Not really....the console will fit over the regular factory auto floor shifter BUT there are two screw holes/attaching points on the regular console that are missing on a console that's been cut out for a dual gate unit. Also, there are some other "features" that are specific to the regular auto floor shifter and woodgrain insert that are lost when the plastic is cut away under there for a dual gate unit.

The two screw holes I mention hold the top of the console to the top of the regular auto floor shifter to add some stability.

To "correct" it you would need a section out of another console to glue, etc back into place....pic below showing the shifter area on a regular auto floor shift 70-72 console. Area outlined in black is very roughly the area removed for a dual gate conversion. Yellow circles are the two screw holes I mentioned above.

Thanks for the information. Do you have a console for a regular shifter?

Yes I do but I'm still doing the last bit of restoration work on the console itself. It would include a factory 70-72 auto floor shift setup in good condition. It'll be fairly complete but may need a woodgrain/chromed plastic insert assembly for the top (not sure if I have one for this console). Console is black.

If you are looking for one to use for donor pieces or aren't looking to spend the $ for a restored unit you should post a "Parts Wanted" ad and keep your eye on the "Parts For Sale" section on this site as there have a been a few unrestored consoles on there lately.

EDIT: I see you already have an ad running...I'll check it out.
Thanks

I just cut a regular console for dual gate and probably have the pieces I cut out if you want them for free to try to glue back into yours.
