Drive shafts

Is there a difference between drive shafts on a 65 442 4 sp. and automatic?

The Jan 1972 printing parts book shows the same P/N 7804895 drive shaft assy for the base three speed manual, the four speed manual with 400 motor, and the automatic. This is a 3.25" driveshaft and is called "first design" and applies to model years 1965-67.

Here's the interesting part. The book then shows P/N 5697022 as applying to 1965 only for "F85 3 S. S.T. H.D. 442". This is a 3.5" driveshaft and is called "second design". I'm now confused. Anyone have an older parts book? This may be a superceded number, especially since Olds part numbers are somewhat sequential and all the other mid-60s driveshafts start with 569xxxxx.

That is interesting considering 442 Bro's website states the 442 driveshaft is a one piece unit and the non 442's used the driveshaft with the rubber dampener. My automatic 442 has the two piece unit with the dampener. My 65 442 4 sp. parts car has the one piece drive shaft. Thanks for your research Joe!
