Drain Door Seals

Drain Door Seals
I just got off ebay and had found the rubber strips that plug the bottom off the door drains.I looked to see if mine were still there and they were not.It looks like to me if they were plugged that the water would just stay inside the door and rust it out. What is the reason you would want them to be in there anyway. They were put there for a reason,I just want to know why.Did all cars have them?

My 59 98 has them. When working correctly, my style are almost like a little door that gets pushed open by the weight of the water on the rubber, the water then runs out, rubber must then resume its closed position.
There to keep dust/fumes? from going in maybe!

As downunder says, they help keep dust out while allowing water that gets by the window belt seals to drain out.
Doesn't hurt to reach behind them once in a while and clean out any dirt and debris that has gotten in there (and believe me it does). The CC wagon passenger front door has always been bad about it- you'd hear water sloshing after a heavy rain but tickle that drain port and water'd pour out for several minutes.
Not 100% sure but I don't think either of my Fords has those seals.
