door edge guards
I'm thinking about picking up some door edge guards for my Cutlass. Kind of like the following...
https://www.opgi.com/cutlass/C240255/
What is everyone's opinion on guards? Were they ever a stock item for a '71 cutlass supreme? I know that some people like them, others seem to despise them. I'm sort of neutral. Just as a side note, if I do get them, they would have to be the chrome or stainless steel, not the cheap plastic wrapped in Mylar.

Chrome door edge guards add a vertical accent line to your car's profile, which is dominated by horizontal lines, with a few oblique elements.
If you like that look, then use them.
I don't like it, myself.

I hadn't thought about that. You're right. I'll have to think on this one a little more. Thanks.

I agree I think they look sharp and putting them on involves some risk of a paint chip as they are pushed all the way in, a bit of force is required and an original moulding (but harder to find) will probably fit best

Edge guards
I know where a few sets of these are. The guy who saved them was not a fan of reproduction stuff. He had multiple sets of new tail light lenses too. The red lense part. PM me if any interest in them or the edge guards and I will contact the current owner. They are looking to sell.

The ones I used were I'm sure are repops. They are soft plastic and fit snug and don't screw with the paint when applying them. I think they look really good.
Here's mine. The tar like substance on the quarter you see is from me pulling the carpet out and dragging it. With the Dynamat it gets a tad tarry. If there is such a word.

They certainly serve a purpose, I personally don't care for them. When I was a kid my Dad put them on all his cars. I just make sure I am careful not to not let my door touch anything when I open it

Both my 71s came with them, and I bought the stainless reproductions when restoring both cars. I really like them as they are such a 60s/70s dress up item. I find cars without them look plain. Just an old guys opinion.

Important: Be sure to use a dry stick lube on the painted door edge BEFORE you put the door edge guards on.
This will facilitate installation and prevent paint skiving.
I use a product called Door-Ease. Looks like a giant crayon.
Good for the rubber bumper stops on doors, trunk, hood too.

I have a set of those new. I took them out of the package and no longer have the package but they are new and never installed. I was going to put them on my W-30 but decided to use my originals if I ever decide to install them back on. If you want these I will take $75 shipped for them.

Hello, if by any chance you still have the door edge guards, please let me know. Thank you.
