Does this make me a redneck?

Not as long as you eventually put the hood on it. I think with that air cleaner you plan to use a hood. I am going to say no, this does not make you a redneck. You might want to ask Jeff Foxworthy.

We had a conversation one day in class about what kind of house we would buy if we had a million dollars. One student, that we lovingly called "Cletus" said "I'd buy a used trailer and a million dollar truck!" Now HE was a redneck. Nice kid though.

I thought others would get a laugh out of the photo, no attention craving here. I couldn't wait for the hood hinges to dry to reinstall the hood before getting alignment done. It has been 5mths since I last drive the car so needless to say I was excited to try out my hard work. But the hood has been reinstalled and grille's will be tomorrow. Yes here in the CA central valley there are plenty of rednecks.

Considering that redneck is a pejorative term on par with ghetto trash and hoodrat, both of which are found offensive by the race to which they apply, I'm not sure it's a polite thing to ask, especially here where they toss out warnings for that sort of thing.
But, to answer the question, since you are driving a nearly fully restored classic automobile, you must be a person of some affluence, and you are doing the drive without a hood for a temporary reason. People to which the term redneck applies are typically poor, either in terms of money, or in terms of motivation and industriousness.

By the way "redneck" actually refers to West Virginia miners from several decades ago when they were attempting to unionize. The term was coined because of the red bandanas that they wore around their necks.
Man, I watch ENTIRELY to much history channel!

Me too. Farmers and their sunburns. At least that's why we always called my dad a redneck. Then he went and bought a '72 442 and did a 360 in the street in front of our house. Then he was just freakin' cool.

Seeing the car being drivin without the hood reminds me of when I was a kid growing up in the 70's. There were two guys, one with a mid 60's GTO and the other with a Nova that drove ther cars around hoodless, to show off the motors. Seemed like that was kinda common back then.

I have been driving my Toronado without the hood for 2 months now.Its easier to work on it.People love to look at what I have done to dress up the motor.I am ready to put the hood on but I need 4 people to lift it.One in front two on the sides and one tightning the bolts.

Every country I would add.
Certainly if you take Jeff Foxworthy's definition; "A Redneck is someone who has fun however he wants to and doesn't give a damn what anyone thinks."
Most definitely the UK and Australia has its share of rednecks, not necessarily beat up truck drivin' beer guzzling hayseeds, but folk having unsophisticated and (mostly) harmless fun.
Roger.

I remember driving my 1940 Ford to school my senior year in 1963 without a hood. It was the first day of school and I had a 265 SBC in it. I got it running the day before. Guys gathered around to look at it. I was cool at the moment. I did put the hood on the next weekend but leaving it off that first day was a good move for a 17 year old.

I really hope you were kidding, because you are completely and utterly wrong. Most of the people that I grew up with are rednecks. They're great people and very proud of the term.
By the way "redneck" actually refers to West Virginia miners from several decades ago when they were attempting to unionize. The term was coined because of the red bandanas that they wore around their necks.

Point is, it's a pejorative term. Doesn't matter what you or I think about it, or any of the people we grew up with, it's derogatory, and just like black people call each other their word, it's still insulting when those who aren't use it. I live in the country, work with people in the country, and like most of them, shoot, hunt, fish, and drive hotrods for fun, so, yeah, I'm there. The term for those people is country, not redneck.
History channel says a lot of wrong and or dubious stuff. I've read that definition, and it's cute, but I think it goes back generations earlier to cotton sharecroppers. I'm cool with you disagreeing with me, but you may want to avoiding waving that "completely and utterly wrong" phrase around in the future, someone may get offended who's less laid back than me.

We don't any political correct, read into too much posting. If you have something negative to say keep it to yourself. Nothing is being directed about anyone so get over it. There is more than enough serious stuff to get to get worked up about in the world.

Car looks great with the hood back on it. The grills turned out fantastic BTW!! Nice job on those. Question: how hard is it to install them with the stone shield still in the car? I was under the impression the grills had to go into the SS before it was installed on the car?? Love to hear back on this.
I see you have one of those 20 gal Husky compressors. I had one too, but found it didn't give me the CFM I needed for my media blaster. Got it at Costco for a decent price. Used it for a week and took it back with the oil drained. They took it back no problem. My 60 gallon does the job now, and for around the house stuff I just use my little Porter Cable pancake compressor.

Yes I love the colors on my car. Blue and silver go together very well and are not common to see. My compressor was the largest I could find that would run off 110. When I bought it 6yrs ago I didn't have access to 220. It puts out enough cfm for my little bench top blast cabinet but it does have to work a bit to keep up if I have the pressures up. My next place I will look into a larger 220 compressor and better blast cabinet.
The grilles can be removed and installed without removing the SS but its tricky and you increase the chance of breaking the mounting tabs. Takes careful manipulation to make it work. I honestly didnt know i was doing it wrong the first time i pulled old supreme grilles gor a clean up. Yes you are supposed to install them along with the SS and when I go to put these in I will lower the bumper and pull the SS. I want to cleanup the S emblem while I have it apart.

You KNOW you're a redneck, when....
You and your kid walk to school -- and you're in the same grade....
You and your kid both spit the same type of tobacco....
You drag your enemies down the road -- but yours is the only car....
You and your kid both have the same girl friend.... or boy friend....
Enjoy....
