Does anyone work at the Colorado DMV?
Why would any governmental organization waste tax dollars to archive half-century old paper documents, most of which were for cars that were scrapped decades ago?

Their tossing records can happen in a much shorter time-frame.
When my Minnesota 442 was 30 years old, I stored it for 4 years (no license renewal). When I wanted to renew the license, they said there were no records of my car and I had to prove it was mine by sending them the original title.
I told them I would send a copy of the title, because if I sent them the original, they could toss that at any time and I would be out of luck with a future renewal.
They did not reply, but did accept the copy.
