Ok. In a life depending emergency when time is limited and you are extremely cautious......

In my case, the squat probably poses the greater risk of injury...

Either situation could be damaging... Depends who is posting (panty squat) and what is at risk (electrical nightmare)...

Personally, I might have slipped some rubber tubing over the hot conductors.

Ok you got me "belly hooked", what emergency situation would it be necessary to hook up a 12 gauge SJ cord to a 50 amp plug??? Oh yea, and the panties clash with the shirt.

Ok. I'll have to say she's in a helluva lot better shape than I am. As we were 50 miles from the nearest place to get supplies to make an adapter for this new welder. And I wasn't willing to cut the cord on a new welder this was the emergency solution and was suprisingly sturdy. The mother of invetion huh?

Looks like there may be a few screws loose here, but it's hard to tell.

Is a new welder worth risking your life for? Sorry, this has to be one of the dumbest threads I have seen on here in 11 years.

And I thought this was an emergency. I first thought after many thoughts on why someone would do this is maybe...just maybe you were trying to back feed your home with a generator using the dryer outlet as a connection. That's been done, and you tube has faulted once again.

I hope I didn't give anyone any ideas there. Because its wrong even if you tube says its ok.

Okay, maybe we are looking at this the wrong way... Could be a medical emergency and someone needs a jump start...

Thumbs up

No lives were risked in the picture posted. But I see that some people are confused here. The trick is, as with anytime working with an appliance or any conductive wiring, to work with the conductors BEFORE plugging them into the wall or turning on the breaker. And to disconnect power again before servicing as well. Does anybody here change plug wires or belts on their Oldsmobile while it's running? That would be similar In a lack of foresight if your the type of person to work with a live circuit. Aside from that only 2 words are needed. "It worked"

I've been in the electric trade for over 30 years and have seen "permanent" wiring way worse than this. Obviously you needed a quick fix and had enough sense to rig it while de-energized. I would have done the same thing in a pinch. ( Would have at least used some electric tape on the connections though)Kudos to you brddg.

Thanks for the dose of common sense here Rick. Some things we are not farmiliar with can be scary and in all honesty should not be attempted by someone who is not comfortable with them. Do not touch/lockout

By the way. The connection seen in the pic above was used for less than 2 minutes

I've been doing electrical work for over 30 years too and the 4 dumbest words I continuously hear are "yea, but it works" That tells me you know enough to be dangerous.

BTW next time out a little more with the focus.

On a serious note be careful of the size wire you use, if it's not large enough you can get a voltage drop and damage your equipment.

Also the larger the wire size the less resistance which = less wattage. Less wattage = less money for electric. Usually doesn't pay for short term usage. All doubters, do the math it doesn't lie.

I had a whole response typed up, then I figured out what you meant. Less wattage LOST.
