Do I need this carburetor adaptor?

Another question guys. My Vista Cruiser has an Edelbrock (1406) carb on it with an aluminum adapter under it. The carb has the dual bolt pattern but uses the outer bolt holes to bolt to the adapter. I assume the car originally came with a Quadrajet carb so shouldn't the carb just bolt on without the adapter? I was going to use a wood fiber spacer under the carb but with this adapter I don't know...

You probably have a spread bore to square bore adapter, if you have a spread bore manifold then yes.

I don't have an edelbrock carb here to compare to a q-jet. To tell if the throttle blades are the same size or if the edel has larger primary side blades that may get stuck on the factory intakes casting holes.. sticking the throttle.

OK, I pulled the carb off, I have the spread bore manifold, the carb has the square flange. I tried it without the adapter and it doesn't seal. So I do need the adapter.
Thanks, I'm still investigating this car.
