Different fenders, or just lights...

Hi Guys,

I was washing the car today and noticed that I have two different marker lights. Does anyone know if this is something that was different from a 1971 to a 1972 maybe, or were they just different options that have been mixed and matched for some reason? If they are interchangeable I think I would like to change the drivers side to match the passenger side.

Thanks

One looks like cutlass supreme and the other (pass side)is regular cutlass.

^^^THIS. Note that the stainless around the wheel opening is different also. One of the fenders has been replaced due to accident or rust.

For some reason I wasn't able to view your photos full screen. The light with the large chrome trim around is for the Supreme as previously mentioned. But one more thing to check, the metal housing that holds the lens wasn't chrome plated but left grey under the Supreme trim. The lights without that large trim had a chrome plated housing. I can't tell if the passengerside light you have is chrome or grey, but if you purchase another one be sure to check this and match the one you want. John

Ah, Joe's post made me think that you'll also have some holes in the fender that hold the large chrome piece on. You'll need to fill those and repaint if you take that off.

Both the fenders were apparently replaced due to rust prior to the paint job. I don't know how there ended up being two different types of lights. Maybe they just used what they had laying around or made a mistake during re-assembly. Nothing I am overly concerned about but would like to correct eventually. I can't believe I have had the car for close to 2 months and haven't noticed until today, lol. I guess I was just more focused on some mechanical items.

Thanks to everyone for helping me clear this up.

Simple. The two replacement fenders came off of two different cars. RH was a Cutlass, LH was a Supreme. Be thankful one wasn't a Vista...

I’m guessing you have 9 of the 10 pieces of wide side moldings. Why not put the proper piece that’s missing on and complete the factory look. Front bumper alignment needs some love and your there.

Yeah, that is kinda what I was thinking. Even though I like the look of the other lights better, the car is so stock and original it would be best to use the right light.

You also have 2 different wheel opening trims. One supreme one cutlass. One complete fender set up on each side

It's funny the things we overlook on our own cars. After owning my Starfire for a couple of years, I discovered the lenses in the tail lights are different.
