Did I score big?

I went to the junkyard today hoping to find that all ellusive plastic tailgate for my Custom Cruiser only to come up short. But I figured that while we were there we should check everything out. Now this particular yard as an old cars section. I was checking all the old Oldsmobile engines to see what I could find. I found some engine with a 6A head and a 10 head engine. Thank god for my Iphone I looked them up on 442.com and found they weren't that good so I kept looking. And I found this old Oldsmobile 88 with number 7 heads. Not 7A or 7 littleA. But plain old 7. I looked them up as I hadn't heard anyone mention just a 7 head. From what I read the 7 is a higher compression head like the 7 little A but with bigger valves(W31). So we took them off and got them for $50. So did I get a deal? And is that engine worth going back for?

Yes, nice score. I would seriously go back and take a look at that engine. If you decide not to pull it, at least consider taking out the cam and seeing how it looks. Most of the high comp engines (as you know) had special cams from the factory. Heck, if the price is right, take the whole thing. Was this car hit and junked? If yes, I'd definitely be thinking about that engine 'cause it probably isn't in the wrecker due to engine failure, and lots of today's folks don't know what they're throwing away.

You did good. It only cost you 50 dollars for a decent set of heads.

We should try to create a page here that has that kind of information with far more accuracy than 442.com.

either you are really good at sarcasm, or you don't browse here much... There are three places I can think of off the top of my head with better info than 442.com

7's were on 71's and 7a's on 72's.
