On page 140 of the PIM it shoes the wiring harness and does not differentiate between Auto and manual trans but... on page 144 it shows "bulb # 1895 Console compartment Lamp (auto. trans. only).

Why that would be, I have no idea.

Yes my 72 does. It might not have been standard through. I believe there was a interior light package. My car has the map light in the rearview mirror and above the hvac controls as well. Tom

70-72 4 speed cars definitely did not have the light at the rear of the console - the lens is even a darker gray instead of the white one that automatic cars got. I've had enough '72 4 speeds with consoles (5) that I can say that with confidence. I'm pretty sure they did not have the light inside either. The automatic cars had lighting under the shifter indicator plate and the harness would continue back to the console compartment. There was no need for the indicator lighting on 4 speed cars and that was probably a factor in not having the console harness there.

From the assembly manual to show what Terry said.

Thx for the info

I get not having the need for a light source around the 4 speed shifter, but why would Olds not believe there would be value in having a light source inside the console storage box. Just as dark inside an auto vs 4 speed console box.

It seems to be the regular lens, just painted gray. It's cream on the inside.

And for that reason alone is why I would put a bulb in there anyway. I thought maybe the 4 speed wouldn't have the harness but I don't see anything that points to that.

I guess that's why nobody sells a 4 speed console light harness. I looked forever and finally bought an auto harness.

I have a question on the inside of the storage box for the console (1970). With a manual transmission, did they have the inside round lens or was it plugged? Also, was the hole in the liner plugged for the push button switch?
Thanks
Greg

The hole for the pin switch was just open. I believe inside the box lens was also missing but not sure on that one. No harness at all in a 4 speed console.

My 72 had the round lens inside the console. It was painted gray as was the lens on the back of the console. No wiring harness or lights
